Through the Woods by Emily Carroll
🍁Terrifying collection of short stories centring around nightmares in the forest🍁
I read my first E.M Carroll book last month, A Guest in the House, and it blew my mind. So I immediately ran to read another from them and I am so glad I did.
The illustrations are terrifying and the creative use of panels propels the story forward, or makes you sit in the fear, whichever E.M wants you to do in that moment. It's genius!
Spurs by M.A. Cobb
🐴 "Do you know how to break a bratty mare? Dig in your spurs and let her buck." 🐴
🤠 Rope yourself a pleasure dom cowboy in this spicy romance. 🤠
Star Trek: Lower Decks―Warp Your Own Way by Ryan North
You'll want to be fully caffeinated to read this choose-your-own-adventure graphic novel.
I LOVED this!
Lower Decks is one of my favourite shows, which is both a parody and an homage to Star Trek and sci-fi in general. This interactive graphic novel puts you on in Mariner's shoes on the deck of the USS Cerritos.
This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar, Max Gladstone
This is my favourite book of all time. I read it multiple times a year. It’s futuristic-sci-fi, but also a love story, and also poetry. It’s structured as a series of letters between two elite soldiers on either side of a ‘time war’. We see the letters change from taunting, to respectful to deeply powerful and loving.
Full Speed to a Crash Landing by Beth Revis
A fast-paced heist adventure novella with a clever rogue main character.
I giggled and kicked my feet through this whole book. The balance between plot and character development is perfect. The pacing is fast, the world building is really well done. The banter between our FMC, Ada, and the man in charge of the mission, Rian, is top tier.
Lights Out by Navessa Allen
A dark romcom that's packed with kink, humour and the threat of violence.
I love the banter between our main characters. Both Josh and Aly are super likably. Josh is hot, but also funny in a nerdy way, which makes him the perfect book boyfriend. The chemistry is hot and the spice is spicing.
The Mercy of Gods by James S.A. Corey
"Alien life exists, and they are assholes"
A dystopian space-epic filled with violent aliens, found family and ultimately hope in impossible situations.
Shades of Fear edt. Allison O'Toole, Ashanti Fortson
Fear has a colour, discover it in this stunning graphic novel of horror written and illustrated by women.
The Flesh of the Sea by Lor Gislason, Shelley Lavigne
An adorable MM epistolary romance AND and gory creature horror with found family pirates and terrifying sea monsters.
🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙/5
I fucking loved this book. Omg.
The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher
A horror fantasy about getting trapped between parallel worlds that will make you think twice before opening strange doors.
This is one of my favourite T. Kingfisher books! I love the references to Narnia and Alice in Wonderland. The horror is a low, creeping dread that gets more intense and claustrophobic as the story continues.
Curse of the Mourning Ring by M.A. Cobb
This book is so hot it's making ghosts sweat.
A hot as fuck book about a woman who falls in love with a ghost and I loved every minute of it.
The Deading by Nicholas Belardes
You'll want to stare into the void and never look back after reading this gorgeously written eco-horror book.
Deading started as a social media trend where teens pretended to be 💀, eyes open, in random places like elevators, sidewalks, etc. However, when an entire town starts doing it, something is clearly wrong.
Crossed Over: A coming out story by Santana Knox
I will never recover from this ending.
This is a coming-of-age story as a woman in her mid/late 20s finds the courage to step into her own power, through the support of her roller derby team.
Black Tide Son by H.M. Long
Pirates and magic and storms, oh my!
An atmospheric, adventure-filled follow up to Dark Water Daughter.
Hera by Jennifer Saint
Find your inner goddess and unleash your rage with this book.
I love that Hera's story is one of feminine rage, and power.
A Guest in the House by Emily Carroll
Sapphic haunted house horror with gorgeous art and colouring.
I bought this book because of the cover and because I love graphic novels. I had no idea what I was getting into, which I highly recommend, so I won't reveal too much about the beats of the story.
PRINCE OF LUST by Lucien Burr
Ever wanted to be f*cked by a demon?
A forbidden MM erotic encounter between a priest and a demon, complete with body horror, degradation, and a talented tail.
Food For Thought by Ariana Ferrante
A stunning Sapphic Greek mythology retelling with horror vibes.
“Destruction. Destruction, I can do.”
Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle
A monster horror, sci-fi which blurs the lines between art and product.
This was my first visit to the Tingleverse and it did not disappoint. I love the mix of horror with sci-fi beneath the themes of queerness and it's connection to unrestrained capitalism.
I Do Not Apologize for My Position on Men by Rae Wilde
A sapphic short story horror collection that will have you craving toxic love.
I kept trying to find a favourite story in this collection and each one just kept outdoing the last. What connects these stories are toxic love, feminine rage and selfish desires. The prose in the writing combined with compelling characters and thought-provoking stories left me breathless.
