The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

A horror fantasy about getting trapped between parallel worlds that will make you think twice before opening strange doors.

This is one of my favourite T. Kingfisher books! I love the references to Narnia and Alice in Wonderland. The horror is a low, creeping dread that gets more intense and claustrophobic as the story continues.

I also love that there was a side-character with my name, so that's always a bonus for me.

The setting is inside the Museum of Wonders, where our main character is helping her uncle run the museum. She finds a mysterious hole in one of the museum rooms and follows it much further than is physically possible. She and her new friend/owner of the local coffee shop, end up following the hollow space behind the museum until they find themselves in a new and terrifying world.

The pacing was great, the dialogue was funny, the characters were likeable and the horror was creatively done.

This book is best read while sitting under a tree and listening to it breathe.
