The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

A dark fantasy romance re-telling of Peter Pan, with an unhinged FMC

I like how Nikki St. Crowe included iconic parts of the original story including Peter's shadow, an unhealthy amount of smoking and kept the FMC's last name as Darling. This is a short read (200 pages), and it's part of a series I'll definitely keep reading.

I like how our FMC is unhinged and sex-positive, while also needing a lot of therapy (maybe in the next book?) She reminded me a little of Sibby from Haunting Adeline. Because the book is so short, we don't get a lot of background on why our FMC is so unhinged. I wish there was a scene that showed us, instead of her monologuing to us about her feelings.

This book is best read after eating pancakes that someone else makes for you.
