The Undermining of Twyla and Frank by Megan Bannen

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

A whimsical, charming romance about finding love and yourself in middle age.

This is an amazing follow up to book one, An Undertaking of Hart and Mercy (also 5 stars!). I love being back in Eternity and Tanria with our Marshals Twyla, Frank and Duckers. Yes, that's right, Duckers is back with his optimism and good humour.

As much as this book is full of adventure, dragons, and friendship, it's also fundamentally about our main character, Twyla, as she navigates her identity in middle age. Her children are grown, she's nearing retirement, and she's forced to confront parts of herself and her history that she's hidden for so long.

There is a simmering undertone of feminine rage that I really resonated with. As someone in my post-chair era, I felt seen.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit for the ARC.

This book is best read while eating a tuna casserole with your hot neighbour.
