Accidental Attachment by Max Monroe

⭐⭐⭐/5

A light-hearted rom-com with forced proximity and light spice.

If you're looking for a feel-good beach read, look not further than Accidental Attachment. The story centers on Brooke, a best-selling author who is in a writing rut and gets through it by writing a spicy book starring herself and her handsome editor. Instead of sending through the book she was contracted to write, she send her spicy book as an ACCIDENT ATTACHMENT (get it!?). The handsome, but clueless, editor doesn't know that the book is starring him and Brooke and puts his job on the line to get it published. From there the relationship grows from professional (ish), to friendly, to love.

I like the disability representation for Brooke, who needs a service dog and that Brooke has supportive friends/family beyond just her romantic relationship. The banter is funny and light hearted, and while you need to wait until 80% to get to the light-spice, the pacing is quick.

There are a few allusions to men's and women's roles though out the book that made me furrow my brow, one was about how husbands respond when a wife asks them if their butt looks big in the jeans, or something like that, a few others about masculinity/femininity that took me out of the book.

The narration was 100% on point. I recommend the audiobook if you're into reading your books this way. If you love romance, you'll recognize the voices of both CJ Bloom and Joe Arden from many of your other favourite reads.

Thank you to NetGalley and Max Monroe for this advanced listener copy.

This book is best listened to in the car while driving across the country with your crush.
