The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djèlí Clark

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

A no-nonsense assassin is given an impossible case, in this sci-fi/fantasy novella infused with dark humour.

Our FMC is dead, well un-dead, and has signed her soul over to an ancient goddess in return for becoming an assassin. However, when she sees her latest mark, she realizes the young woman in front of her is impossible, and yet, there she is.

Our FMC is focused and serious, but is also looking for connection within her world of death. I loved watching her character development. The secondary characters were interesting and unexpected.

The pacing is quick and the plot moves along really well. I didn't want to stop listening.

Lynnette R. Freeman is the narrator and does an amazing job. There are a lot of characters, and she navigates between each in a way that is authentic and distinct.

P. Djèlí Clark builds a really interesting world, and I hope he's planning to expand this into a series, because I want to go back.

This book reminds you that there's nothing better than getting lost in your work, with no one but yourself.
