Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

A Macbeth retelling, but make it gothic feminine rage.

I don't remember much of Macbeth from high school, so I can't comment on the verity of this story when compared to the text. However, as story, this was a really compelling read.

The prose are gorgeous. The pacing was consistent. The gothic descriptions of Macbeth's castle made me feel the stones beneath my fingers.

I love that our Lady Macbeth is not infallible. She is clever, and grasping for any amount of autonomy in her life. However, not all of her machinations turn out in her favour.

The edition I have is gorgeous, with a bright pink cover embossed with epithets Shakespeare used to describe Lady MacBeth.

This book is best read while laying on a bearskin rug, in front of a raging fire. Keep a chair wedged against the door.
