First Attempts: DIY Sprayed Edges

Are you obsessed with the gorgeous, exclusive books with beautiful sprayed edges? Because I am.

I see books as art. Adding sprayed edges is a way of taking the magic within the book and showcasing it on my bookshelf. However, books with sprayed edges are expensive, and sometimes boring (who wants just pink as a sprayed edge?) So Iā€™m trying to elevate my existing books from blank slates to works of art in their own right.

I use a mix of acrylic and watercolours, and create stencils using my Cricut and vinyl. Each stencil is designed specifically for the book. Either to match the cover (colours and design), or to express some theme from the book itself.

#Fail - If you paint just acrylic, or too many layers, it will peel and chip. Not a good look.

Here are a few of my first attempts.
