My Book Quote Tattoo

For our tenth wedding anniversary, my husband and I decided to get matching tattoos to celebrate the milestone. I know some people love tattooing names, but I believe it brings bad luck, so that was out. We thought about things that were important to us and our story together and quickly landed on The Princess Bride.

This story has been with us since the beginning of our relationship. It’s one of the things we talked about on our first date, we’ve not only watched the film together multiple times, but also saw it performed at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and my husband read the book to me at the hospital while I was in labour with our first born.

The quote, “As you wish”, is probably the most famous from both the book and the film, but we also saw it both as a promise to the other person, and a renewed commitment in our relationship to each other. We measured it out on our arms so it lines up when we hold hands - because we’re freaking adorable!

So far this is my only tattoo, but I am planning on another bookish-inspired tattoo in the future.
